They claim that such a failure means that casuistry depends on either a naive metaphysical realism or an ethical conventionalism. Casuistry does embrace a certain unobjectionable moral realism and can
shared norms and values onto its new mem-bers. Those members are free to accept or reject those norms and either embrace or leave the community, but the community has a role in inculcating them.
